Team 510 competed in Matt Ogelsby’s Thanksgiving 7on7 tournament, where it had great success going 4-0 to take home the championship. Team 510 beat St Ignatius in two consecutive games ending with a 17-9 win in the final. It was 510 Lacrosse’s fourth tournament championship and second of 2010 behind the Marin Showdown tournament championship. Beating St Ignatius to win the tournament was a great accomplishment. “It’s sweet to get one against SI after they beat us in the All West tournament final,” said head coach Jerem Stothers. “They are always the standard team to beat.” Sean Scott and Hunter Irvin of Berkeley High along with Michael Hernandez of Piedmont High lead the way on offense each averaging over 4 points a game. Sophomore Henry Anderson and Junior George Pappas of Piedmont High split games in goal and played lights out. Lastly, longpoles Yashi Eusterbrock of Berkeley and Charles Tuan of Piedmont played nasty defense all day long including shutting down SI All-American Bobby Gray in the championship.
Team 510 is now focusing in on the next task as the host team in the 2010 510 Challenge. This year the Challenge expanded to fourteen teams and two divisions: The “Solid” and “Way Too Solid” divisions. “I can’t wait to see what they can do in the Challenge. This could be the best overall team we have ever had at 510 Lacrosse,” said coach Stothers. The 510 Challenge will be played December 11th and 12th at Bishop O’Dowd and Oakland Tech.
